Biography
Jorge Pereira obtained the Engineering and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon, Portugal in 1983 and 1987, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering-Systems from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, in 1993.
He has been with the European Commission since September 1996, initially as Scientific Officer, becoming Principal Scientific Officer in 2005. He has remained in the same DG, dealing with ICT, covering a broad variety of areas, with a focus on networking, devices, applications and services, experimentation, testing and validation, as well as deployment. He is, since 2016, in the area of Future Connectivity Systems, focusing on 5G and beyond, where he is responsible for the areas of Advanced Spectrum Management; optical-wireless convergence; Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM); and Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR).
He is a member of the Advisory Board of John Wiley’s Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Journal, and of the Editorial Board of Kluwer Academic Publishers’ Wireless Personal Communications Journal.
He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer in Portugal and a Member of the IEEE, where he is Associate Editor for Mobile Radio, including Vehicular Communications, for the IEEE VTS Magazine, and a member of the IEEE 5G Summit Steering Committee of the IEEE Communications Society. He also served as Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks

Biography
Regius Professor of Electronic Engineering and Professor of Mobile and Satellite Communications, Founder/Director of 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) and Director of the Institute for Communication Systems, University of Surrey.
Regius Professor Tafazolli is distinguished for his outstanding contribution to strategic research and development in future mobile and wireless communications including areas such as ad hoc networking, novel mobile architectures, massive MIMO, Green Communications and the Internet of Things (IoT). He is the inventor of the NOMA technique for Mass connectivity in 5G and Beyond 5G.
In Europe he pioneered clean slate research on Future Internet called “post-IP” era Internet. He is renowned for establishing the world’s first 5G Innovation Centre at Surrey University, which has galvanised national and international interest and funding for next generation mobile communications.

Muhammad Imran received his M.Sc. (Distinction) and Ph.D. degrees from Imperial College London, UK, in 2002 and 2007, respectively. He is the Professor in Communication Systems in the University of Glasgow, Dean University of Glasgow UESTC, Head of Communications Sensing and Imaging (CSI) research group and Director of Glasgow UESTC Centre of Educational Development and Innovation. He also serve as an affiliate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, USA; Adjunct Research Professor AIRC, Ajman University UAE and a visiting Professor at 5G Innovation centre, University of Surrey, UK.
He has led a number of multimillion-funded international research projects and the "new physical layer" work area for 5G innovation centre at Surrey. He has a global collaborative research network spanning both academia and key industrial players in the field of wireless communications. He has supervised 50+ successful PhD graduates and published over 500 peer-reviewed research papers including more than 100 IEEE Transaction papers.

Bernard Duval is a technology transformation management consultant focusing on 5G disruptive technologies. He manages several collaborative research projects between industry and universities as part of the ENCQOR project, Canada's first pre-commercial 5G digital infrastructure corridor. The project is intended to make 5G networks accessible to Canadian businesses, researchers and universities, helping them realize its potential, promoting long-term economic growth within Canada’s innovation ecosystem.
With over 20 years of managerial and advising experience in the information technology, e-commerce and communication sectors, Bernard focuses on negotiating and building partnerships, thereby bringing a business agreement or an innovation project to fruition.

Professor Harald Haas

Professor Haas received the PhD degree from the University of Edinburgh in 2001. He currently holds the Chair of Mobile Communications at the University of Edinburgh, and is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of pureLiFi Ltd as well as the Director of the LiFi Research and Development Center at the University of Edinburgh. His main research interests are in optical wireless communications, hybrid optical wireless and RF communications, spatial modulation, and interference coordination in wireless networks. He first introduced and coined spatial modulation and LiFi. LiFi was listed among the 50 best inventions in TIME Magazine 2011. Prof. Haas was an invited speaker at TED Global 2011, and his talk: "Wireless Data from Every Light Bulb" has been watched online more than 2.2 million times. He gave a second TED Global lecture in 2015 on the use of solar cells as LiFi data detectors and energy harvesters. This has been viewed online more than 1 million times. Professor Haas holds 31 patents and has more than 30 pending patent applications. He has published 300 conference and journal papers including a paper in Science. He co-authors a book entitled: "Principles of LED Light Communications Towards Networked Li-Fi" published with Cambridge University Press in 2015. Prof. Haas is editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technologies. He was co-recipient of recent best paper awards at the IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC-Fall) in Las Vegas in 2013, and VTC-Spring in Glasgow in 2015. He was co-recipient of the EURASIP Best Paper Award for the Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking in 2015, and co-recipient of the Jack Neubauer Memorial Award of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. In 2012, he was the recipient of the prestigious Established Career Fellowship from the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) within Information and Communications Technology in the UK. Prof. Haas is recipient of the Tam Dalyell Prize 2013 awarded by the University of Edinburgh for excellence in engaging the public with science. In 2014, he was selected by EPSRC as one of ten RISE (Recognising Inspirational Scientists and Engineers) Leaders in the UK.
